Materials Provided :

  • ⁠ ⁠Small pottery pieces

  • ⁠ ⁠Variety of glazes in different colors and formulations

  • ⁠ ⁠Glaze application tools (brushes, tongs, ladles, sprayers)

  • Buckets for dipping glazes

  • Wax resist, sponges, and other surface decoration tools

  • Aprons or smocks

  • ⁠Towels

  • ⁠ ⁠Safety equipment (gloves, goggles)

Class Content and Structure :

  1. ⁠Introduction to Pottery Glazes : + Welcome and overview of the workshop objectives.

    + Explanation of pottery glazes, including types, composition, and firing temperatures.

  2. Understanding Glaze Materials : + Discussion on different types of glaze materials, including oxides, stains, and raw materials.

    + Overview of glaze formulation and mixing techniques.

  3. Glaze application techniques : + Demonstration of various glaze application methods, including dipping, pouring, brushing, spraying, and wax resist. + Explanation of each technique's advantages, challenges, and effects on the final result.

  4. Hands-on Practice : + Participants will have the opportunity to practice glaze application techniques on ceramic test tiles or small pottery pieces.

    + Explanation of coil construction and joining methods.

    + Hands-on practice for participants to build their own coil pots or sculptures.

  5. Surface Decoration and Enhancement : + Discussion on additional surface decoration techniques to complement glaze application, such as sgraffito and wax resist.

    + Tips for achieving desired effects and enhancing the visual appeal of glazed pottery.

  6. Glaze Firing and Safety Considerationse : + Overview of glaze firing process, including kiln loading, firing schedules, and safety precautions. + Important safety guidelines for handling and working with pottery glazes.

  7. Pottery Wheel throwing demonstration and hands-on + Participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at the pottery wheel under the guidance of the instructor.

    + Individualized assistance and feedback provided to each participant. + Exploration of creating simple forms such as cups, bowls, or small vases.

  8. Clean up + Instruct participants on how to clean their workspaces, tools, and hands properly. + Collect any unused clay for future use or recycling.

  9. Q&A and Discussion + Open forum for questions, sharing experiences, and discussing techniques. + Instructor provides additional insights and tips based on participant inquiries.
